He is living life large with the wild ducks. A domestic farm breed. They cannot fly but they can run really fast. Larger than most ducks. The curl on the tail makes it a male.

Yes, he was looking for a handout & yes, I did have my bag of birdseed mix with me. Still a thrill to see winter ducks up close. They are so pretty and colorful.

I love winter ducks. Many of them have already migrated away from DFW. The shovelers stay here a bit longer than other species. They are starting to pair up & are in beautiful breeding colors. They will leave before nesting unfortunately. Enjoy them while you can.
