This is the last shot I kept & processed from Screech Owl Nesting Season 2024. I still can't get over how goofy looking Frick turned out to be. Apparently, he was a good provider since they successfully raised & fledged babies. I hope they return next season.

This is the first time I've seen both parents together, outside of the box. Caught them canoodling. Apparently Frack is very affectionate, it is always her preening him (have seen it on some videos in the front yard box.) She was grabbing his ear feathers at their base and preening up to the tip before letting go and getting another feather.

On the day this was taken, Rufous allowed me a nice little photo session with him. What's more, he allowed it with me up on my ladder, at a respectable distance, so I could get a more eye to eye prospective. I miss the clutch of owlets and his mate but I appreciate that he's stuck around and still accepts my presence, Even when it's my presence up on a A-frame ladder cursing the lack of balance on my part and doubly cursing the difficulty of one armed photography...
So I had like the best time ever at the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown today. I was able to visit some of owls used for education- These owls go to schools and events for the zoo. They were amazing. I was in my glory. I have never been up close before, so it was a real treat for me.
I took photos of more of them so be sure to check out my stream if you'd like to see them. I'm too darn tired to copy and paste in to comments. I'm just feeling whooped right now. Hanging with owls was a breath of fresh air compared to the hustle and bustle that is life right now.
I ordered Moo cards for the first time and they are in!! Whoo hoo! So I want to send them out of course!! I have 40, and I want to get them all out.
