This was the first time I'd seen cormorants mating. I thought they migrated elsewhere before they raised babies.

This turned out to be a bug lifer for me. And apparently, I have both a male & a female. They look the same. Busy making more.

I found her on a leaf & she turned out to be new for me. She was newly mated & still had the male's nuptial gift of a spermatophore. Had to look that one up. It is a packet of nutrients given to the female during mating. She eats it and it increases reproductive success. I'm talking about the jelly like glob under her wing here at the end of her abdomen.

Sound on!
Frick brought Frack his first food gift, a gecko. She was sitting in the box when he showed up on the perch & called her. He came to the opening and dangled the lizard in front of her. She seemed pretty excited about this. But, for some reason, Frick jumped back to the perch & called her from there. She came to the opening and he kept calling her. Video ended due to her being still at the opening. What the next video showed was a blur when she came out to the perch then they both flew off. I can only assume he gave her the gecko on a limb outside. This happened at 5am in the morning. I have seen hawks & eagles where the male brings food for the female then mates with her while she is eating & sitting still. So maybe?

First time I've gotten a shot like this. My neighbor has a flowerbed with blue salvia and lambs-ear. Both are blooming right now & there are tons of bees. It is a bit overwhelming so I just aim at the flowers and take a lot of clicks hoping for some keepers. I had no idea there were 2 bees in this shot until processing. The males have much longer antennae (longhorns) than the females. Both have amazing blue eyes.

It's mating season for turtles. A female was leading 2 competing males on a merry chase. One male with bright red ears is young. The other male is elderly with his red ears faded to black. Who will win? Youth or experienced maturity? The female actually seems to be smirking in several of the shots. The young stud seemed to have the edge when this began but the old guy took over the lead at the end before they all disappeared from sight. Photos are numbered in the order it happened.
