Brooks Lodge is situated at the mouth of the Brooks River and the shore of Naknek Lake. Katmai National Park, is a remote area of Alaska accessible only by air or boat. Most visitors to Katmai National Park & Preserve use air taxi flights, float planes, from Anchorage, Dillingham, Homer, King Salmon, Kodiak, and other nearby Alaska towns and villages.
The main reason we go is to photograph the brown bears. I also enjoy photographing the float planes as they land and take off on the water. Hard to find the data on the number of day visitors that come each day but do not stay overnight. I estimated on any given day 150 to 350 people travel in and out each day.
I enjoy walking the concourse of this open airport, watch the planes pull into to the gates and the passengers depart or board. There is usually a greeting committee on the shoreline.
