The previous day, I would get word from a few friends about an Office Car Special (OCS) going down to San Luis Obispo or SLO. The next day, I'd go out to Crockett to get it. I'd get there just in time as I'd get there 2 minutes before it'd pass by.

After a week of trips between Barstow, LA, Thenard, and San Deigo, BNSF's OCS is headed back to Topeka via the southern Transcon. I suspect the train was used to wine and dine existing shippers and possibly new ones they're trying to convert to Big Orange around the ports and other facilities on the system. Here they squeeze through the twin buttes east of Holbrook riding on ambers from a Z train ahead of them.
Some of BNSF's passenger car fleet has been assembled into an OCS train with multiple stops scheduled along the West Coast over the next week. They were behind schedule here in this middle of nowhere shot due to MOW having M1 OOS from Lupton to Cheto. This one and about five other westbounds languished for hours while eastbounds were given preference through the area. They finally showed up as the sun was dropping towards the horizon and the photo spots were getting slim. The deadhead move with only the car attendants on board would make it to Winslow at dusk.
The cars on the train were:
BNSF 53 Mt. San Antonio
BNSF 60 Stevens Pass
BNSF 66 Cajon Pass
BNSF 63 Glorieta Pass
BNSF 45 Powder River
BNSF 40 Fox River
BNSF 10 Lake Superior
BNSF 29 Valley View
BNSF 31 Carl R. Ice
BNSF 30 Glacier View
It was just shy of a year ago that this 2024 version of the Norfolk Southern business train rolled east through a downpour. The OCS, powered by two freshly painted NS heritage units - the Southern and the Virginian - add a splash of color to the extremely dreary day as they make their way east across Pennsylvania before turning south in Harrisburg to head to the annual Masters Golf tournament.
Today Norfolk Southern's passenger cars were being assembled in Altoona for the annual Masters trip - here's what the train looked like last year. Steady rain was falling in Huntington, PA as Norfolk Southern train 955 hustled the Office Car Special past HUNT Tower. Double heritage - Southern Railway and Virginian Railway - were tapped to take the train to the Masters Tournament in Augusta, GA where the train will be used to host VIP guests and railroad executives.
