The West Baden Springs Hotel has an incredible history of success, failure and a very expensive restoration. The dome has a 195' diameter and a height of 135.' Building this dome was deemed to be impossible. In 1902 the resort opened with its iconic dome. Over the years it served as not only a resort, but a hospital during WWI, a Jesuit Seminary and a college. Restored by the Cook family and the Indiana Historical Society. Now a luxurious resort. Architect Harrison Albright, then 35 yrs old and practicing in Charleston, West Virginia, said he would design the dome and resort complex. He went on to build many famous projects. Located in French Lick Township, population 574.

French Lick Scenic Railway 1813 (a motor that shows up often in my photostream) eases its way into Cuzco, on a muggier-than-it-really-needed-to-be Mother's Day. On this day, the train was full of eager little kids waiting to meet Buddy the Dinosaur, at FLSR's annual Dinosaur Train event.

I'm doing a lot of work for French Lick Winery in 2014/2015, and on a sunrise shoot at their vineyard in Dubois County, I made this photo.

I'm not from Indiana originally; I'm from Pennsylvania, and when I describe where I live to people back east, I hear the same cliches about Indiana, and the Midwest in general: it's flat, it's all cornfields, there aren't trees, how could anyone live someplace so boring?

That's when a photo like this comes out, and the conversation changes. Southern Indiana is full of some of the prettiest, most unexpected topography anywhere, and that no one ever thinks about it makes this neck of the woods that much better.
