The awesome landscape of Piazza del Popolo, Rome, Italy

A door to the interior (!) of the Porta del Popolo - the gate itself being the entrance from the always busy Piazzale Flaminio to the grand Piazza del Popolo.
The gate was originally named Porta Flaminia (after Via Flaminia) and a part of the Aurelian walls (originally built 271-275 A.D.), and it was how pilgrims coming from the north would enter Rome in a time long before trains and planes. But the gate was rebuilt by Nanni di Baccio Bigio in 1562-1565 on order of pope Pius IV. It was inspired by the Arch of Titus with columns from the former St. Peter's basilica.

One of the four lions (well, actually you can see two) surrounding the Egyptian obelisk at the centre of Piazza del Popolo in central Rome.
The obelisk had been erected in this spot in 1589 (in ancient times, having brought over from Egypt by Augustus, it had been in Circus Maximus) but the lions are an addition from 1818.
But no matter how hot a summer day it is, do not bathe in these fountains. The water is not the problem, but the police would most likely have much to say.

THE SQUARE WITH THE PALACE OF CASTELLOTTI-PAGANELLI
The village of Offida looks like a jewel enclosed between powerful walls, which stands on a rocky spur cut out by the two branches of the Lama stream. Its past is still very present in the architecture of the town, in particular in the medieval walls with towers: of the fortress, however, a stretch of wall and two cylindrical towers remain, residual traces of an ancient history.
The heart of the town is Piazza del Popolo, with its unusual triangular shape, overlooked by buildings of different styles and materials. On the main side you can admire the Palazzo Comunale, with an elegant loggia of thirteen travertine columns and a 15th century portico formed by brick columns with travertine capitals.
