Stunning sulphur shelf fungus

Also commonly known as chicken of the woods and sulphur polypore. This was a real treat to see and learn of such a mushroom.

Native to Europe and North America growing on mature and dead hardwoods.

Laetiporus sulphureus is recognizable due to the vibrant colours and distinctive growth pattern. The shelves can grow quite large, I've read growing up to 60 cm which is amazing.

Edible when young, with a meaty texture which some say is reminiscent of chicken.
