Amsterdam Light Festival
Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in Amsterdam. Artists, architects and (light) designers from all over the world bring their light artworks and installations alive during the festival every winter.
Edition #13 is from 28 November 2024 until 19 January 2025. In total 27 light artworks will illuminate the iconic canals of Amsterdam. For Amsterdam Light Festival 2024-2024 the theme is Rutuals. Rituals have traditionally helped us through all kinds of transformations; from past to future, from winter to summer, from youth to adulthood. Light plays a vital role in many rituals, as a vibrant symbol of joy, energy and life. We use fireworks to usher in the new year, candles to commemorate, and midsummer fires to welcome the solstice. Light adds something mystical and sacred to a ritual like no other element can. And rituals unify. Rituals bring people together.
That’s why we celebrate Amsterdam750 with light. With art. With each other. With Edition 13: Rituals.

The Hard Rock Café Amsterdam goes all out for footballer Messi with a special burger that must be promoted. Here on Combino 2101 which is deployed on tram line 13 here on the bridge over the Singel in the Raadhuisstraat.
This Combino 2101 has been delivered to the GVB on 10/09/2003 and first put into service on 26/09/2003 on line 4.

The Raadhuisstraat in Amsterdam with GVB tram 2093. A nice contrast with the small Canta to the right. In Amsterdam they have some popularity as they can be parked without an expensive parking permit.

No matter how much the fashion house C&A is asleep, the more cheerful the tram is to promote the boring clothes. Combino 2100 here on duty on tram line 13 on the bridge over the Singel on its way to Centraal Station.

Het museale grootbordes-tramstel in Amsterdam is ditmaal ingetuigd als lijn 13. Op de lijnen 7 en 13 sleten deze tramstellen hun laatste jaren in de getoonde uitvoering, zo tegen 1960.

De deuren aan de linkerkant staan open en de hekjes zijn neergelaten: ook dat is een klassiek beeld, bij mooi weer in de zomer. Dan zomerde het 'officieel' en kreeg de tramrit een feestelijk tintje

By tradition, the old Amsterdam trams ran with open doors at the left side on warm summer days. Folding barriers were used in that case to close the entrances on that side

As the day progressed, the weather became better and the city center of Amsterdam became busier.

Koningsdag or King's Day is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Celebrated on 27 April (26 April if the 27th is a Sunday), the date marks the birth of King Willem-Alexander. When the Dutch monarch is female, the holiday is known as Koninginnedag or Queen's Day and, under Queen Beatrix until 2013, was celebrated on 30 April.

The holiday was initially observed on 31 August 1885 as Prinsessedag or Princess's Day, the fifth birthday of Princess Wilhelmina, then heir presumptive to the Dutch throne. On her accession in November 1890 the holiday acquired the name Koninginnedag, first celebrated on 31 August 1891. In September 1948, Wilhelmina's daughter Juliana ascended to the throne and the holiday was moved to her birthday, 30 April. The holiday was celebrated on this date from 1949. When Beatrix became Queen, Queen's Day remained on April 30, but in 2013, when Willem-Alexander became King, King's Day is on his birthday; April 27th.

Na jaren achter een laag verf te hebben gezeten, is dit fraaie tegeltableau in 2011 weer tevoorschijn gekomen. Een zelfde tegeltableau is vinden op de Ceintuurbaan, hoek Amsteldijk.

Dit achttiende-eeuwse pand (rijksmonument 4751) heeft een Jugendstilpui uit 1903, ontworpen door architect Hermanus Hendrikus Baanders (1849-1905).
Opdrachtgever voor het nieuwe onderstuk was de Eerste Hollandsche Levensverzekerings-Bank. In het tegeltableau boven de winkelruit prijkt niet alleen de naam van de maatschappij maar ook een afbeelding van het hoofdkantoor, gebouw Astoria op de hoek Keizersgracht-Leliegracht. Met de bouw daarvan was in 1903 nog niet begonnen; op de bouwtekening ontbreekt het dan ook op het tableau. (bron: amsterdamopdekaart.nl/)
