The rail replacement season is running, and on last weekend, this also meant buses over the "Seedamm" causeway between Rapperswil and Pfäffikon. Among others, Postauto war present with an articulated MAN from Hütten garage, which is used there only on weekdays.

Last timetable change saw many new and changed postbus routes in the western regions. For example, the bendy buses of route 670 Yverdon - Echallens are now running further to Bottens and Froideville instead of the re-routed 440. As there are some rail replacement services in the Broye with the need of at least 6 more articulated buses and some new electric bendies are late, many older examples can be seen at the moment. Bus 4608 was operating in Davos from 2008 to 2021, then based in Gland and now acting as back-up in whole western region.

Since january 2025, four eCitaro are running from Wildhaus on route 797 to Buchs SG. The route leads through the steep Simmitobel valley; seen here is 12134 climbing down near the stop "Schutzgunten", recovering some percents of battery on it's 700 altitude meters of descent.

Last Wednesday was unusually foggy and misty in the western Part of Switzerland - even in the higher Aubonne valleys, mist was not entirely cleared until the evening - which led to this mystic scenery with the villages and espescially churches of Essertines and St-Oyens looking out of the mist while Citaro 10610 is running towards Les Granges before climbing down the 350 meters to Rolle at the shores of Lake Geneva.

There are only two services per day crossing the Julier pass summit in winter, usually all of them operated by the same bus. It leaves Chur in the morning with a service to St. Moritz and heads back in the evening, with an intermediate return trip to Bivio (connecting with local route to Tiefencastel) and back. On the latter service, the bus is climbing up the road from Suracqua towards the summit, with the road still partly covered with snow after a day and night of heavy snowfall.

Since last summer, RhB is operating a new peak hours shuttle service between Zernez / Susch and Scuol-Tarasp, offering a connection to the RE trains Landquart - St. Moritz in Order to serve the touristic and administrative center of Scuol half-hourly. As the rail infrastructure is not ready for that half-hourly service, the new service is operated by postbuses under "EV" tag ("Ersatzverkehr" or "Rail replacement service") although there is no information about if and when the new service can be operated by trains actually. The first morning service on workdays arrives Susch at 5:27, the bus is seen here waiting for the connecting train just arrived before heading back for Scuol. The vehicle will serve as ski shuttle bus in Scoul later on that day.

Large (for swiss scale...) numbers of new Iveco/K-Bus low floor 4x4 minibuses are due to arrive in the next months to replace older 4x4 Sprinters on small mountain routes - more than two years after the delivery of three prototype vehicles to Grisons region. One of that three buses is used on Guarda Staziun-Cumün route, one of the shortest postbus routes connecting the RhB stop to it's village 200 situated 200 altitude meters above.

Usually, public transport users pass the stunning gorge around Bergünerstein ("Bergün's Rock") in a railway tunnel, but for two weeks in that November, rail replacement buses are using the only and narrow road to Bergün. While large 12m buses run from and to Bergün only, brand new K-Bus midis are running the through services to and from Preda.

The "Gondoschlucht" gorge on the southern part of Simplon pass is one of the most impressive gorges in Switzerland served by buses. Climbing up around 400 altitude meters on 5 road kilometers, many of the road is in tunnels and galeries, as there is a high risk of rock fall in summer and avalanches in winter. Only a few parts are visible from the Stockalper hiking path, even more impressive than the road (including some iron bridges and a part using the tunnels of a remote military fort) - one is the short "Bajikrachen bridge" built in the 1960s to get the road away of a passage endangered by landslips. Seen here is on of the usual Crossway standard buses of Brig's depot used here, the vehicle seen was built 2015 and is running as route 631 from Brig towards Domodossola.

Only in summertime, route 383 continues from La Forclaz to the alpine settlement of Ferpècle. The road, less than 3 meters large, is very impressive and requires the use of 10.8 meters long midibuses as Irisbus Crossway Nr. 10 (ID 5177, 2011, bought in 2021 from TMR Martigny) that is usually on this service in summer 2024. The village seen below is Les Haudère, where route 383 starts and connects with route 381 from Sion.

Since the introduction of the new "mobiJU" brand, postbuses are running in red and white in the Canton of Jura. While also some older vehicles were re-painted (or re-stickered), all fice articulated buses are new built in 2021. With the much enhanced offer, only quarter-hourly route 7 has to be served by articulated buses anyway, on all other routes the standard buses are running more often to spread the demand over the hour. The bus is approaching Vicques, with the higher quartiers of Delémont, "Chef-lieu" and largest town in the region, are still visible as the bus crosses the wide (for swiss scales) fields of the Val Terbi valley.

The 20 Enviro 500 double deck buses of PostAuto are usually spread over the garages of Heiden, Engelburg, Nesslau and Goldach - but especially during summer time, they are often used away from their regular routes for seasonal rail replacement services - at the moment, up to 3 of them are used between Uznach, Wattwil and Herisau replacing the trains of Südostbahn. Seen here, a bus is running towards Uznach approaching Ricken summit - the road is used by hourly buses of route 622 too, but the yellow double deckers and bendy buses are a nice alternation between the usual white Schneider citaros. The mountain in the background is Säntis, with 2502 meters above sea level the highest mountain of the Aplstein mountains.

PostAuto Zürich's route 150 connects Horgen with Hirzel, Schönenberg and Wädenswil - while Horgen to Hirzel is operated hourly throughout the week, the part between Hirzel and Wädenswil is operates hourly on weekends only (to partly replace shortened route 128) and in peak hours. With the first of the three lunchtime services running from Hirzel towards Wädenswil, Nr. 383 is approaching the hamlet of Aesch (one of several carrying that name in the country).

Route: 70.150 Horgen - Hirzel - Schönenberg - Wädenswil

Bus route 665 is connecting the town and public transport hub of Yverdon with Bercher, the terminus of a narrow gauge railway from Lausanne, running hourly during peak hours and two-hourly on weekends. The route leads through a very rural part of Gros-de-Vaud region, here a Crossway LE is seen running towards Yverdon near Orzens. In the background, the large silo of Bercher railway station can be seen, as well as the savoyan alps.

The village of Teufen is Connected hourly by route 522 with the railway station of Embrach-Rorbas. Standard autobuses are used, often one of the two Volvo Hybrids built in 2015 for the Embrach garage. Seen here, the bus is climbing up to Oberteufen in an early spring morning.

Leaving the village of Rothenbrunnen with Giuvaulta Fortress watching over the village and valley, one of nine short Volvo 8900LEs based in Thusis heads for there on the new route 513, connecting Rothenbrunnen with thusis via Tomils, Paspels, Rodels, Pratval, Almens, Fürstenau, Scharans and Sils.

The Schwägalp summit, where the cable car up to Mount Säntis starts, is served by two bus routes of Nesslau and Urnäsch. While the latter is now served hourly (and will be served half-hourly for the first time in summer 2024 thanks to my plannings), only 8 buses per day are offered on route 792 from Nesslau, actually operated by a mix of double-deck and single deck buses. The 2017-built Citaro LE seen here has just passed the Bernhalde/Lutertannen stop serving the small bunch of huts located there, and is now starting the final climb up to Schwägalp.

Four postbuses are based in St-Martin for the routes on the eastern side of Val d'Hérémence. While standard buses are used for the routes down in the valley, midis are necessary to use the narrow roads in the villages up here; three short 10.9 meter Crossways were delivered (among others for Veysonnaz and Sion garages) to Sion in 2023 for St-Martin routes, one of them seen passing through Trogne on it's Way to Fontany, where there will be connection to a bus from Nax to Sion.
