Tilford Bridge

A view not easily taken from the the east bank of the River Wey.
My bad knees didn't like the overgrown and soft ground of the bank .

About Tilford Packhorse Bridge
One of the best-preserved medieval packhorse bridges in England, this is a designated Ancient Monument, and one of two in Tilford.

Between Godalming and Farnham, there were at one time 14 medieval crossings of the river Wey. Six have survived. They are Eashing, Unstead, Somerset, Elstead and two at Tilford. They are built in the local undressed Bargate stone.

Two arms of the River Wey meet at Tilford, Surrey, and an ancient bridge spans each arm, Tilford Packhorse Bridge and Tilford West Bridge. The bridges were almost certainly constructed by the monks of nearby Waverley Abbey, which was built in 1128. It was the first Cistercian abbey in England, and was dissolved in 1536.

The 13th-century Tilford West Bridge has been restored and Tilford New Bridge constructed alongside to replace a semi-permanent crossing built by the army in 1941. The bridges form an important local link and during construction a temporary footbridge was constructed to minimise disruption. Harmony between the old and new bridges has been achieved by using an ironstone surface to the new piers and timber parapets to the new bridge. The minimal use of signage and other street furniture ensures that the bridges and their new approaches do not detract from the natural landscape. The timber used for the parapets - oak for the old bridge and ekki on the new bridge - is from sustainable sources and a large portion of the materials from the demolition of the old bridge were recycled.

"SENDO" ON THE BANKS OF THE UCERO RIVER, Explore! ⭐ May 29, 2025

The town of El Burgo de Osma has a magnificent promenade along the banks of the Ucero River, perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon.

And "Sendo," with his pure hunting instinct, is amazed by the sounds of birds and the rich aromas of spring.

Pets know how to enjoy the moment much more than humans.

In the background, to the upper right of the image, you can see the ruins of the medieval Osma Castle.

The castle was built between the 11th and 15th centuries, although the city of Uxama-Argelae was known since before Roman rule (2nd century BC).

It must have been an important point between different Roman roads, because Roman historians already mention it, cited by Claudius Ptolemy, Pliny the Elder, and in Antony's Itinerary.

Swing Bridge and the St. Louis

The St. Louis River churns below like a mad beast, its waters glinting with the ferocity of a thousand shattered dreams, while the swing bridge at Jay Cooke State Park dangles above it like a junkie’s last lifeline—taut, trembling, ready to snap. The air smells of pine and damp earth, a primal scent that hits you like a fistful of mescaline, and the rocks, oh man, those ancient, jagged bastards line the riverbanks like the teeth of some prehistoric god, grinning at the sheer audacity of this rickety green contraption swaying in the breeze. The sky’s a vicious blue, the kind that blinds you with its clarity, and the trees—bare, skeletal, some still clinging to their evergreen defiance—stand as witnesses to this fragile human intrusion into their savage domain. You can feel the bridge’s cables hum with tension, a low moan that screams of impending chaos, and down below, the river’s pools reflect the whole damn scene like a warped mirror, showing you the truth: this is nature’s turf, and you’re just a fleeting, trembling speck on her swinging tightrope.

Rushing waters of Jökulsá á Fjöllum carve through dramatic landscapes, flowing downstream from the renowned Dettifoss waterfall in Iceland. A stunning rainbow across the sky, bridging the gap between rocky cliffs and vibrant greenery.

Visitors stand at the edge of the precipice, captivated by nature's grandeur.

red river gums - alice river

Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers.

Romantic painting pano version.

The Alice River in central Queensland, Australia rises on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range. It has been very dry so the river is a series of waterholes - it needs a good flush. You can see the water marks on the trees from previous flows. The river bisects the Shire of Barcaldine, flowing in a south-westerly direction towards Isisford and its confluence with the Barcoo River to form Cooper Creek. Barcaldine is located on Lagoon Creek, which flows into the Alice River approximately five kilometre s to the south. The Alice River is often dry, except after the annual summer rains.

Waters from the Barcoo and Alice Rivers flow towards Lake Eyre in Central Australia, while rivers further east join the Murray-Darling basin and reach the sea in South Australia. (Source: Wikipedia)

Red River Gum
Scientific Name: Eucalyptus camaldulensis
Eucalyptus camaldulensis, the river red gum, is a tree of the genus Eucalyptus. It is one of around 800 in the genus. It is a plantation species in many parts of the world, but is native to Australia, where it has the most widespread natural distribution of Eucalyptus in Australia, especially beside inland water courses.
