Royal python (python regius)- near threatened, live in dry/humid environments- west/ central Africa

The Royal Python is also known as Ball Python as they tend to curl into a ball when they are stressed. They are a non-venomous species and the smallest of the African pythons although they still reach a maximum length of 182 cm (72 in). Apparently they are very popular pet snakes.
I took this photo at our zoo.

At the risk of scaring my friend, Cindy, here's another shot from the education wing at the zoo. And a fun fact: the oldest recorded ball python lived to a ripe, old age of forty-eight, in human care.
