Ruffly-edged, delicate Ruellia nods in the warming morning air. Even the slightest breeze moves its silky, translucent, sail-like edges.
Ruellia has funnel-shaped flowers. Some are blue-violet, others pink and white. The richly-veined purple throat is sometimes red.

Despite the name, this plant is not related to the usual garden petunia at all - rather, it belongs to the Ruellia genus.
Desert petunia is an extremely tough, drought-resistant plant with a long bloom period. Blue petunia like flowers appear throughout the growing season.
