An 8 years old lesser black-backed gull (Larus fuscus), that I met right in our neighbourhood in June and August last year.
In June it was fishing on shoals of small fish by the beaches, together with many other gulls and terns. In August, it came flying right towards me as I sat at the beach.
It was ringed as a chick on Lista, a couple of hours south of us, and called J998R. It had never been registered, again, until now.
That is what's interesting about ringed lesser black-backed gulls. They often spend their first years in southern Europe, and often on places they are rarely seen, before we see them back here in Norway many years later.
We have a colony of lesser black-backed gulls close to our house, so it will be interesting to see if it turns up again this year.
(Sildemåke in Norwegian)
