A Small World within our Small World (6797)

A visit to a local park (Shakerag Park in Johns Creek, GA) resulted in this photo being captured using a 160mm crystal sphere. The result is an image that captures the microcosm of the land, lake, trees and sky that can be seen there.

This photograph was shot on a cloudy day, by resting the globe on a nearby bench, focusing on the image in the orb, and then "flipping" the image to show it off upright against the blurred background of the tree's. Focusing only on the inverted image that is condensed into the glass, results in a narrow depth of field. Even though I used a 50mm lens, the resulting shot has a wide-angle view of the area, thanks to the distortion of the globe, similar to how a fish-eye lens works.

The way the finished image turned out, it appears almost as another world, contained within a bubble floating through the air. A realistic image yet in a surreal context of the photograph.

Comments and constructive feedback are always appreciated!

3.52 miles from FS-90B Parking Lot

I took this shot as soon as I came off P2 (Pinhoti 2) onto Mulberry Gap / Conasauga Road. This is 3.52 miles from where I started at the parking lot for FS-90B. P2 consists of about 1.43 miles of singletrack / doubletrack on old roadbed and the remaining 1.64 miles is really amazing singletrack.

Wilderness Road

If you keep going straight, you can come to Potatopatch Mountain. But don't get too cocky - look at the map. I've helped more than a few people slightly lost along this route. Go left here to come out onto Mulberry Gap Road via ShakeRag Road. Go straight if you are heading to Barnes Creek, Bear Creek Upper Trailhead, PotatoPatch Mountain, Mountaintown, Lake Conasauga, Cohutta Wilderness, etc.

Pinhoti 2 FS-90B Parking

This is the parking area for Pinhoti 2 / P2. To get to this spot, take FS-90B a short distance (0.45 mile) uphill from FS-90.

The road towards the right heads back north/northwest to Gates Chapel Road. To the left is P2, P3, Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-A-Way.

Travel that road on the left, and you will pass P2 on the right, then P3 on the left, and then come to Mulberry Gap Mountain Bike Get-A-Way on the left side of that road; all within 2 miles or so (?).

Pinhoti 2 (P2) ShakeRag Loop

The previous 11 images in this photostream are depicted / titled on this GPS track composite. I started at the FS-90B parking lot which serves as the northern/upper trailhead for Pinhoti 2. I rode in a counter-clockwise fashion. The first half of P2 is doubletrack / singletrack on an old roadbed. About half way (1.43 miles) it turns into amazing singletrack. You get dumped out onto Mulberry Gap / Conasauga Road. I went left (counter-clockwise) and hit ShakeRag and returned north/northwest to Gates Chapel / Wilderness Road / FS-90.

Note the FS-90 sign next to the StumpJumper FSR. The paved road is behind me, FS-90B, Barnes Creek, Bear Creek upper trailhead, PotatoPatch Mountain, Cohutta Wilderness, etc, is up ahead. I like the road less traveled.
