L.F.D. Unknown Department by kyfireenginephoto

L.F.D. Unknown Department

L.F.D.
1920's Federal/Boyer
Chemical & Hose Wagon

A great looking fire engine, it's an antique, a good photo. What more could I want? I want to know who the L.F.D. is. I have a Boyer delivery list that was copied from factory records. Nope, no Federal chassis apparatus went to a department with a name that began with the letter "L". I hate mysteries.

It's a fairly plain fire engine no extras show in the picture. There is a nice Sterling hand-crank siren mounted on the cowl. That's it.

Does anyone recognize this and want to put me out of my misery?

Athens - Panagia Gorgoepikoos by Martin M. Miles

Athens - Panagia Gorgoepikoos

Athens, the southernmost capital on the European mainland, is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years. According to Greek mythology the city was named after Athena, the ancient Greek goddess of wisdom. Classical Athens was one of the most powerful city-states in ancient Greece. It was a centre for democracy, the arts, education and philosophy, and was highly influential throughout the European continent, particularly in Ancient Rome. For this reason it is often regarded as the cradle of Western civilisation and the birthplace of democracy.
The Panagia Gorgoepikoos (aka Mikrí Mitrópoli - Little Metropolis) is located next to the cathedral.

Although local tradition considers the church to be the foundation of Empress Irene, most experts date the church building to the 12th or 13th century. From the middle of the 7th century, the predecessor building of the current church belonged to the monastery of Agios Nikolaos. However as the monastery was later given to the Archbishop of Athens as a benefice, the church was used as a private chapel.

The cross domed church is almost entirely built of reused spolia from earlier buildings, ranging from Classical Antiquity to the 12th or even 13th centuries.

The various reliefs of the spolia were only discovered in the 19th century. Until then, a layer of painted stucco covered the exterior of the church.

Even Still, I Hear You Call

The artwork on the window of this aesthetics business reminds me of a beautiful siren. Tempting us with a martini in hand. ;) I discovered this new release last Wednesday by one of my favourite indie-rock bands Bleach Lab. The lyrics fit with the siren theme...

Whisper softly to me
Wanna be the air you breathe
Wanna be everything

Write my name on your skin
Like a wave I’ll pull you in
Like a wave I’ll pull you in

Lights passing
You by my side
Life’s passing
You keep me alive

Bonus! A “shimmering” track that I had on repeat last year: “Drown” by Bleach Lab.

Athens, the southernmost capital on the European mainland, is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years. For this reason it is often regarded as the cradle of Western civilisation and the birthplace of democracy.

Planning for an archaeological museum began with the founding of the Kingdom of Greece. Once financing was secured, construction began in 1866. The main building was inaugurated in 1874, followed by the two side wings in 1881 and 1885.

In 2009, the museum was expanded by approximately 24,000 m² of exhibition space, allowing it to display over 2,000 additional ancient exhibits.

The about 11,000 objects on display come from all regions of Greece, as all important finds were brought exclusively there until the 20th century, so it is considered one of the greatest museums in the world and contains the richest collection of Greek Antiquity artifacts worldwide.
