Route 44 has been criss-crossing Edinburgh since 1954, originally from Eastfield to Juniper Green but nowadays extended at both ends to run from Wallyford or Whitecraig to Balerno. In this picture, fleet number 665 is seen pulling away from the Haymarket stop on Dalry Road with the first part of the new landmark Haymarket Square development rising behind. The bus has just crossed the Haymarket railway tunnels which pass under the new development, itself built on the site of the former Morrison Street Goods Depot. Just visible in the distance to the left of the new office block is the Heart of Midlothian FC war memorial commemorating the club’s players and staff who died in WW1.
