Up to this point at this area the wall was about 25ft above the beach level with large lipped edge to throw the water back [ it didn't work very well on rough days when tides were high ] .
At least there was a reasonable beach which was fairly gently sloped into the sea .
The large white building in the background was a pub / nightclub which I believe had several names over the years including The Nab Club , the Beach Club etc . It pinched the wide promenade to a small walkway and was swamped by the sea several times over the years and of course its now gone and replaced by flats and the walkway widened .
And of course can you imagine that operation taking place in that style these days . There would be a raft of hi-viz , fencing , warning signs etc etc .
