Buachaille Etive Mòr

Buachaille Etive Mòr - The iconic and classic view of the River Coupall falls in morning autumn light, dominated by the backdrop of Stob Dearg (Buachaille Etive Mòr - the herdsman of Etive).

Undoubtedly Scotland's finest mountain set in an impressive and incredibly beautiful landscape, typifying the very best of what the Highlands has to offer.

Scottish weather

A bit of archive mining this week, looking back to a stop off on the way home from an escape to the NW Highlands from the Covid pandemic in September 2020. The weather was suitably wet and wild, but it was just good to get away from people and the problems back then. You may recognise that this is a real honeypot location at the top of Glen Etive looking across the waterfalls of the River Coupall towards Buachaille Etive Mor brooding with its head in the clouds. Hopefully this is a slightly different angle from the usual shots you will see from here.

Glen Coe

This was the view from the breakfast room of our hotel in Glen Coe. The passing clouds every now and then revealed the summit of Stob Dearg, which is the highest and finest peak of Buachaille Etive Mòr, and one of the most famous sights of the Highlands.

For really long on my bucket list. The view onto Stob Dearg, part of Buachaille Etive Mor in Glen Co, Scotland. For this view you have to walk up Beinn A´Chrulaiste, another mountain in this area.
Me and Dexter did this twice. At the evening the day before and for sunrise on the next day. But we lost the race against the sun, so I had to shoot this one at about 30 minutes before the summit. Otherwise it would be a much wider view.

This shot was taken on our two week roadtrip through England, Wales and Scotland. Together with my wife and our two Australian Shepherds Tamino & Dexter.

Beautiful lighting, with the clean lines of the road at the bottom and the moor beyond.

Rocks and smooth lighting. Really have to be up there to understand the light changes and capture the highlights.

The light and the darkness. With so many peaks and the changing light, you pick up so many different views and contrasts.

Dark rocks and feeling overwhelmed. It is a tough place to be when the light starts to fade and the rocks take on a darker malevolence.

Buachaille waterfall, explore 6-9-24

Buachaille Etive Mòr (/ˈbuəxeɪl ˈɛtɪv ˈmɔːr/),[3] Scottish Gaelic: Buachaille Èite Mòr,[4] 'great herdsman of Etive'), also known simply as 'The Buachaille', is a mountain at the head of Glen Etive in the Highlands of Scotland. Its pyramidal shape, as seen from the northeast, makes it one of the most recognisable mountains in Scotland, and one of the most depicted on postcards and calendars.

Buachaille Etive Mòr is a large ridge nearly five miles (8 km) long, almost entirely encircled by the River Etive and its tributary the River Coupall. The ridge contains four main peaks: from north-east to south-west these are Stob Dearg (1021.4 m), Stob na Doire (1011 m), Stob Coire Altruim (941 m) and Stob na Bròige (956 m). Stob Dearg and Stob na Bròige are both Munros; the latter was promoted to Munro status by the Scottish Mountaineering Club in 1997.[5] To the west is the smaller ridge, Buachaille Etive Beag.
