The Yates Mill is one of the last working water-powered gristmills in North Carolina in the United States!
The historic timber gristmill was originally built in 1756 by Samuel Pearson.
For over 200 years the mill has been in business by several owners grinding corn and grain. It was also an important community gathering place.
In 1953 it closed permanently due to lack of business and structural damage.
The property was purchased by the North Carolina State University in 1963.
The watermill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
In the 1980's, a group of associates began a project to restore the mill and pond and turn it into a county park.
In 2006, the the mill was restored and the 174-acre Yates Mill Pond Park and Finley Visitor Center opened to the public!
