And a new favourite walk at that.
This (parabolic?) arch is under the thundering M40 that bypasses the village of Stokenchurch, high on the Chilterns.
An ancient village, it lies on the old main route between London and Oxford (A40) and became a major stabling and coaching stop as it sits at the top of the steep descent down the Chiltern escarpment. It was particularly busy in the Civil War and served both Parliamentary and Royalist armies as they journeyed between the two towns. How that worked I don't know!
Today Stokenchurch is a rather dull commuter village, but in beautiful surroundings. This path cuts under the M40 just 100 yards from the village centre, the road just a farm access to the other side.
The start of a stunning Chiltern's walk. A new favourite and varied walk with lots of alternative routes, I'd decided to do it as it was forecast to be a southerly wind, slicking any motorway sound away from my route.
Not looking forward to it but hopefully after the operation on my other eye on, my eyesight will get a big improvement for mid to long range vision. Age catches up with us all at some point.
My left eye is fantastic now so hoping for the same in the right eye.
Will try to catch up on my return but I have to limit computer / iPhone / iPad and computer time while the healing takes place.
Once again four weeks of limited things like not lifting anything heavy, drops in the eye four times a day etc. etc. My fitness will fall away quickly again till I can get out in the garden in earnest.
All the best Jerry
