Peaks' View

The winding Virgin River makes for interesting views of the many peaks that make up Zion Canyon, as seen here with this vertical in May, 2025.

Moonscape Utah

Here is one of many photos of the high desert in Utah that makes one feel like they are on another planet. This is Snow Canyon State Park, from the Canyon Overlook, May, 2025. As I have mentioned, the state parks near Utah's Big Five are worth a look, this one in St. George near Zion.

Bye-Bye, Bryce

Our last morning on this trip and the sunrise at Bryce left me something to remember, May, 2025.

Family Cuddles

Today it is six months since I met this adorable family for the first time.

Two lionesses and two cubs kept together close to our camp in Masai Mara, and we photographed them many times.

The first time was during dawn the first evening after just arriving the national park.

Today I will spend the day both together with my parents and my sister's family, to watch my niece's first dance show. And then have an Easter concert together with my choir family ♡

The Disappointed Pride by Ranveig Marie Photography

The Disappointed Pride

A pride of six lions (two males, two lionesses and two young ones), that just had killed a Maasai cow not that far from our camp in Masai Mara five months ago.

We watched as the Maasais came to pick up their valuable cow to use the meat.

And we were told that the Masaais had scared and yelled at the lions, who now hid disapponted, hungry and ashamed in the forest.

Check out more photos of them in the links below the line!

Hippopotamus/Hippo (Hippopotamus amphibius) - with Red-billed Oxpeckers (Buphagus erythrorhynchus) Lower Zambezi National Park Zambia, Africa

Hippopotamuses are large, round, water-loving animals that are native to Africa. There’s a reason why “hippopotamus” is Greek for “river horse” as you never see a hippo very far from water. They spend much of their days in the water, resting in groups known as pods or rafts. After sundown, they make their way out of the water to feed on grasses and plants during the night to be out of the hot sun that their skin cannot tolerate. (We got to experience this right outside of our tent, they make quite an odd loud wheezing - honking noise!) Hippos will graze about 3km (1.8mi) away from the water, although some individuals move farther inland walking 10km (6mi) to seek food, spending an average of 5 to 6 hours on land per night. They consume up to 60 kg (132 lbs) of grass every night, plucking the grass with their wide lips. The adult mouth on average is 1/2m (3ft) wide and can gape open to 150° to show the teeth and make them selves look bigger. Their lower tusk-like canines are sharp and can exceed 30 cm (12 in), they are only used for fighting and not eating.

Hippos are commonly 3.5 meters (11.5 ft) long, stand up to 1.5 m (5 ft) tall, can weigh 2721 kg (3 tons) and up to 4536 kg (5 tons) for the big males. Females are generally about 30% smaller than males. Hippos are the next largest land animal after elephants and rhinos. Although their shape is pig-like, their closest living relatives are cetaceans, which include whales, dolphins, and porpoises. This relationship is supported by genetic and molecular studies along with fossil evidence which indicates that hippos and cetaceans share a common ancestor that lived around 55 million years ago.

Tired Cub ~ BW version

One of the two cubs and two lionesses that we met during the first days on the savanna a little over three months ago, close to our camp.

It was really touching to watch their cuddles and love for each other and they gave us many nice motives.
