A young malachite kingfisher (Corythornis cristatus) from last year's trip to Kenya.
One can see it's a juvenile due to the dark beak. The adults have a reddish orange beak.
We met many malachite kingfishers this year as well, but I haven't looked at those photos yet.

The malachite kingfisher (Corythornis cristatus), on my last day in Kenya almost two weeks ago.
We met four kingfisher species on our trip- both in other beautiful colours and in black and white. In Norway we only have one, but maybe the most beautiful of them, the orange and metallic turquoise common kingfisher.

Kingfisher displaying wing-flapping behaviour during a hunting session, often executed just before diving. This behaviour is probably meant to provoke a possible prey to get a fake perception of the predator and in this way facilitating a possible successful catch
