"Anna's Hummingbird by Red Penstemon" by Patti Deters. A female Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna) hovers delicately, feeding from bright red penstemon flowers, captured in perfect focus against a blurred background. The scene highlights the intricate detail of the bird's feathers and the lush blooms. This tiny hummer was photographed at Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Thank you for viewing this picture with a square crop. On this Monday, July 28th,2025, we see Hazzard Range County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lance Mead walking to his unit. He is walking through Government Center Park, which is located next to the County Government Center in Sparta, the County seat.
The statue we see is the Remembrance Statue as a way to honor the U.S. Military personnel who lost their lives or were injured serving in the United States Armed Forces in the past, present, and future at home and abroad.
The county government center was built by the WPA (Works Progress Administration ) in the late 1930s. The building still houses most county offices today. Along with the Sheriff’s admin office, the 14th District Court, and the County Magistrate's Court. County Commission Chambers is also housed in the building
The Lopez building is located on Second Street and was named for Sheriff Timothy Lopez, who was sheriff from 1898 to February 1912. He died in the great fire/flood of 1912, and it houses Code Compliance, Emergency Services Administrator, and 911 /Regional Dispatch offices. It was built in the 1930s on land once owned by Lopez and used to be Sparta's city hall before the county-city merger in the 1970s
County Volunteer Fire Station 5 ( Sparta 2 ) is a small two-bay two-story building built in 1920 . The second floor is used for a meeting room and storage. The county has been trying for a few years trying obtain funding through State and Federal funds to replace the Lopez building. With a modern building to house Emergency Services, but just like the county detention center for the time being, county staff and residents deal with small, cramped spaces.
