Cow killers belong to a group of insects known as velvet ants. Not ants at all, they are really wasps, the females of which are wingless. The cow killer is the largest in our area. They are notorious for possessing a powerful sting and a very long stinger. They are also almost impossible to destroy by stomping - they have an extra-hard exoskeleton...sweet dreams!
