After a magnificent night sighting of the two lion brothers that we had encountered earlier in the day in the Khwai Concession in north-western Botswana, we were headed back to camp, when a Verreaux's eagle-owl was spotted.
We raced to set up for a shot, and shone the spotlight on this magnificent owl as it sat perched high in a tree in pitch darkness.
Seeing the distinctive Verreaux's eagle-owl is a very special experience, and this was only the second occasion on which we have seen one.
