Oenotrian biconical urn and impasto bowl used as lid from Sala Consilina by diffendale

Oenotrian biconical urn and impasto bowl used as lid from Sala Consilina

Enotrian "a tende elegante" ceramic
Iron Age, Villanovan period, ca. 800-770 BCE
Excavated at Sala Consilina (see on Pleiades), southwest necropolis of San Rocco, Tomb M28 (cremation)

The burial displays a mix of cultural practices; deposition of the cremated remains within a biconical urn with a deliberately broken handle is a "Villanovan" practice, while the container itself is of Enotrian production.

In the collection of the Museo Archeologico di Sala Consilina
Inv. SC\06012, SC\06031

Photographed on display in the exhibit "Etruschi: Viaggio nelle terre dei Rasna" (Etruscans: Voyage in the lands of the Rasna), Museo Civico Archeologico di Bologna, December 12, 2019-May 24, 2020 (extended until November 29, 2020).
