Dresden Plaate Quilt Block at far end of Charlie and Melody's living room couch 20220429-151216

We often stage quilt projects on our living room couch to take photos of them. After I photographed the Dresden Plate quilt block by itself at the far end of the couch, I captured this image of one side of the living room in our San Francisco home. All the photographs on the wall and on the greeting cards are ours. I shot this with the light source behind me using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Blue stair case with white balusters Older San Francisco home 20240221-161354gh

Seems like black of dark grey has become popular colors to paint houses. They seem to be popping up all over San Francisco. Don't know why. The dark color made the white balusters leading from the street to the front door of this vintage 1906 home. Too striking a beautiful contrast to not capture an image as Melody and I passed by during a neighborhood walk as February 2024 was winding down.

Back deck pink orchid closeup - cropped version 20240315-100537B

Melody and I have neighbors who started gifting us orchids during holiday season since we stay away from sweets such as cookies and candy. At first they fared poorly in our back room. I finally learned they do not respond well to being over watered. We also enclosed our back deck and now it is a mini hothouse, at least 10 degrees warmer than outside. During the winter months, we put the orchids on the deck on warm days and bring them inside on cold nights. I made this photo of an orchid in mid March 2024. Although I shot the original image using macro and spot focus, this is a further cropped version.

Melody walking in front of blue house on steep Peru Ave hill San Francisco 20230323-143456

There are no flat areas when Melody and I walk our San Francisco neighborhood. Peru Avenue is one of the steeper hills. The pretty blue home on this hill is less than three blocks from our home. We don't walk this hill everyday, but it has gotten much easier since we started our daily walks in Feb 2023. I captured this image from across the street using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Pink and orange flower front yard of San Francisco home 20230323-143202

I made this photo of a brilliant pink and orange flower about two blocks into our daily walk near the end of March 2023; about a month after Melody and I started the routine. This was in a neighbor's front yard; far enough away that I used the full telephoto capabilities of my Canon Powershot SX50 on spot focus to capture this image.
I would love to know what kind of flower this is.

Familiar landmark bench where trails meet in John McLaren Park San Francisco 20230317-134425

I made this photo during Melody's and my extended walk in John McLaren Park in mid March 2023. We had only been doing daily walks for a month but were distancing between one to three miles per day back then. In 2024 we still walk 30 minutes to an hour and one half each time out, many times through this 313 acre park. Though it looks rural in this photo, John McLaren Park is in southeastern San Francisco and has several area with lakes, picnic tables, and playgrounds; even a nine hole golf course. There is a very short bench in the middle of this photo. You can see it if you enlarge this image. We use the bench as a landmark of where we are when in this section of the park.

Woman with dogs John McLaren Park San Francisco 20240314-153341

I made this photo of a woman and two dogs during Melody's and my visit to John McLaren Park There was a third dog that is out of frame. The woman's command of the dogs impressed us and I captured this candid image as Melody and I were on our way home from our daily walk. I shot this at a moderately close distance using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Green house with white trim San Francisco's Excelsior District 20230307-135505V

I made this photo of a green house with white trim as Melody and I walked our San Francisco neighborhood. This pretty house looked much different the year before this March 2023 photo before it was purchased and painted this color. Looks can be deceiving. Though many of the houses in the Excelsior district are a mere 850 square feet with one or two bedrooms and often only one bathroom, this unpretentious home is six bedrooms and 4 baths, with entire modernized interior. This building is probably a century old. Goes to show that you can't tell a book by its cover.
As an aside, like houses throughout most of San Francisco, there were a number of wires showing in the original image. As I am not a news or documentary photographer, I took the liberty of cloning out the distracting wires to product this cleaner looking image.

California Golden Poppies Athens Avalon Greenspace San Franciscso's Excelsior District 20230427-141424

I made this photo of California Golden Poppies while on a daily walk in spring 2023. These poppies are California's state flower. They are wildflowers and will grow just about anywhere. They mostly shut down during the winter, on cold and gloomy days, and after dark. They open up and thrive in the sun. A pleasure to view whether in open fields or peeking through jutting rock.

Lines across pavement 20240224-151105

I made this photo of lines across pavement as Melody and I were walking back home from our local Excelsior District Library. The round trip is a little over a mile but includes steep downhill going to and a fair incline coming back. We take different streets on the return trip when we don't feel like climbing the very steep hill the block before our San Francisco home. On thing about our neighborhood walks – nothing is ever level.
I had seen variations of this pattern of light and shadow lines on the sidewalk before, but they looked more intriguing this particular afternoon. As usual, shot with my Canon Powershot SX50.

Conservatory of Flowers building seen from west. Golden Gate Park San Francisco 20210311-133757

I made this photo of the west end of the five gallery Conservatory of Flowers Victorian Greenhouse during an early March visit in 2021. Guess we took a break from the pandemic that day. Even without documentation, I am sure Melody and I wore our face masks that day. As I post this in march 2024, we still do when entering indoor venues where others will be gathered. This west end room of the COF used to be used for special exhibits. That changed under leadership of a new director and is still mostly an open room with plants around the periphery, a room with tables and benches where people can relax and contemplate. In this photo most of the panes of the greenhouse glass have been whitewashed, except for the background dome.

Fence, stairs, and shadows HFF 20240221-160612

I made this photo of a fence, stairs, and shadows during Melody's and my daily walk near the end of February 2024. Had to be a fence for Fence Friday. Stairs and shadows were a nice bonus. Shot using my Canon Powrshot SX50.

Turtle closeup John McLaren Park San Francisco 20240314-152842

I made this closeup photo of a red-eared slider turtle while visiting John McLaren Park, the second largest park in San Francisco during one of Melody's and my daily walks. I shot this using the telephoto capabilities of my Canon Powershot SX50.

Crows on wires 20240222-155433

I made this photo of crows on a wire during Melody's and my daily walk through our San Francisco neighborhood in February 2024. These birds made a lot of noise and, as you can see here, several landed on wires strung between power poles; 15 to be exact. Although we were at the top of a hill, I was still looking up when I captured this image using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Valentine on gate 20240221-160034

Even though Valentine Day is February 14, I made this photo of a front gate decorated over the top with valentine red, hearts, bells, and a WELCOME sign a week after during Melody's and my walk through our neighborhood. I found it interesting that such a happy and welcoming display is on a gate with iron bars.

Heart on front fence taken during our walks around our San Francisco neighborhood a couple days after Valentine Day 20240216-152109

I made this photo of a purple heart on a front fence during Melody's and my daily walk in mid February 2024. The owner of this property hangs decorations appropriate to the season or holiday. I shot this using my Canon Powershot SX50 a couple days after Valentine Day.

Green and red succulent John McLaren Park 20240316-170653

I find it intriguing that some succulents change colors throughout the year. Some are bright yellow for a while before turning back to all green. Some seem to die off and then come back.
I made this photo of a green and red succulent on Melody's and my daily walk in mid March 2024. I captured this image in McLaren Park, near our San Francisco home, using my Canon Powershot SX50.

Girl going down slide John McLaren Park Redwood Grove Playground San Francisco 20240316-170835

John McLaren Park is the second largest park in San Francisco. Much of its 313 acres is wooded and rural, several parts have amenities – playgrounds, lakes, paths, and trails. Even a 9 hole golf course.
I made this photo of a young girl starting down a slide at the Redwood Grove Playground during Melody's and my walk on March 16, 2024. This was a moderate telephoto shot for my Canon Powershot SXX50 – about 600mm (35mm equivalent). Looks like grandpa was caring for the child this late Saturday afternoon. I obscured the faces of the people in this photo to not invade their privacy.

Bucked up logs after falling on bench John McLaren Park San Francisco 20240316-171236

I made this photo of a bucked up tree in John McLaren Park during Melody's and my daily walk in mid March 2024. With days of winter heavy rain and high winds, many trees break limbs or are uprooted – especially in a heavily treed park such as our 313 acre John McLaren Park near our San Francisco home. This photo shows parts of bucked up trees. We can also see the seat of the green bench damaged in the background.

Green painted house shot from north edge of John McLaren Park San Francisco 20240316-171448

I made this photo of a green colored home as Melody and I were walking back to our car after a half hour walk up and down the hills of John McLaren Park. Normally we would walk from home to the close by 313 acre park but often, like on this day, stop at the park after doing other errands that require using our car. We can see this brightly colored house from several places in the large park but were up close and personal this late afternoon in mid March 2024. I will probably post images in the future showing this house when shot from a distance.
