The Flickr Åksetnaturfoto Image Generatr

I know many agree with me that spring goes too fast. But I have made the most of it by spending much time in nature, enjoying it in all the nice weather we have had.

I have found and photographed many more bird species than other years, in all parts of the country.

The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), like this female from southern Norway 2.5 months ago, is one of those I have met and photographed the most, in several parts of the country.

Now the bird migration is pretty much over, and many species have big chicks already.

I ended May yesterday with going home from a wonderful photography trip in eastern Norway, and photographing great spotted woodpecker chicks back home, in addition to lesser spotted woodpeckers (dvergspetter in Norwegian), feeding their younger chicks.

In Norwegian, we call the Eurasian jay "nut jay" (Garrulus glandarius).

It is one of the bird species we have the most of outside the hide where I am now.

This one is from another hide two months ago.

It was also amazing to see the badgers (grevling in Norwegian) for the very first time last night.

A Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius) from a hide two months ago.

Today is BirdLife Norway's Bird Day/ "Fuglenes dag". It is arranged in the end of May since 2010, to celebrate bird life and focus on how fun the birdwatching hobby can be, as well as the importance of preserving the increasingly vulnerable bird life.

Today is the first grey day with rain in weeks, so some events are cancelled or have few participants I guess. A bit sad, but the nature and birds really need water now. The lakes have dried up and many rivers are standing still, so I hope they will be filled up again soon.

I will have a break in my birdwatching as well today, but that is good both for my body and for the editing of my portrait assignments.

A male great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), from a morning in the forest two weeks ago.

It is one of 8 woodpecker species in Norway. Now I am on my way to join a woodpecker trip together with Birdlife Stavanger. I wonder how many nice species we will find, and I hope for som new ones for the year.

A female Eurasian bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula), from the same hide in southern Norway I recently posted the male as well from, and where I have been back for two days now.

We have only had one male bullfinch here now, but many great spotted woodpeckers, nuthatches and others.

A Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius), up close from a hide in southern Norway one year ago.

Now I am on my way back, together with the same two photography friends I went with last year.

If we are lucky, we will spend the two days together with both goshawks, jays, woodpeckers, squirrels and many small birds. And we may hear some owls as well.

A male Eurasian bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula), from a hide in southern Norway one year ago.

Yesterday I booked a new stay for next week, together with the two I went with one year ago.

In addition to small birds, jays and squirrels, we hope for a goshawk and woodpeckers.

Today I will look for birds on Jæren in the sunshine with a friend.

On last year’s second-to-last day, I finally got to photograph a (young) Eurasian goshawk (Astur gentilis) for the first time, which I had hoped and tried for many times earlier in the year, without luck.

But I can't call it last year's last model, since I photographed many jays (nøtteskriker in Norwegian) later that day. It even started snowing during the afternoon, but sadly the goshawk didn't come back for that.

Today we have got snow at home as well. Another nice start of the new year.

It's ten months since the last time I photographed golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos) from hides (and all the crows, ravens and jays surrounding them).

Now I am on my way to southern Norway, to spend a day together with them again tomorrow. A nice way to end the year!
