This today started at Derby due to a broken down freight train and terminated at Birmingham New Street due to a lack of train crew

The sun had been shining but as you would expect the heavens opened for the train. In retrospect though, I think this makes for a better image.

Whether or not this worked, I'll let you decide- but the footbridge was occupied by a family that were stood in the precise place that I wanted to stand for my shot. So I opted for this instead.
Arriva Cross Country class 43 no. 43303 hurtles past the Dog Inn car park at Water Orton on 29th November 2020 working 1V52 York to Plymouth high speed train. Classmate no. 43378 was at the rear of the seven coach Intercity 125 formation.
As the mighty tram hurtled past, the family on the bridge could be heard audibly saying 'wow'- the tram has still got it.
I wanted to get the staircase from the dilapidated building into the shot as I find the dilapidated grandure here very interesting.
The current Water Orton station was opened in 1909 by the Midland Railway, replacing a station that was further down the line towards Whitacare following the opening of the new route from Kingsbury to Water Orton, negating the need to use the tight curve at Whitacare.
The station was built with a full complement of station buildings, with entry on Marsh Lane and then down onto the platform where there were a set of platform buildings with waiting areas. Browsing through Flickr, it would appear that these buildings were removed in the early 1990s, leaving the remaining road level building in place with a staircase running through it to platform level. These days, the building is in a very sorry state, with a simple shelter on the platform to house commuters. The station remains incredibly popular with enthusiasts, with a vast amount of freight and special workings passing through, owing to the various routes that converge here.
