The National Bus Company formed the Alder Valley subsidiary out of the 1972 merger of Thames Valley and Aldershot & District. Corporate poppy red became the fleet colours. In early 1981, welcome relief from that uninspiring livery was provided when two vehicles were repainted in the old Aldershot & District colours to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the company. Seen in a wet Guildford Bus Station, Leyland National KPA382P looks a smart sight in the A&D two-tone green and cream, colours that seemed to harmonise with the old company’s Surrey and Hampshire operating territory.
