Am 12. Juli 2018 zeigte sich das Wetter auf der Röthelmoos Alm von seiner besten Seite. Bei Temperaturen um 23 Grad, leichtem Wind und blauem Himmel mit vereinzelten weißen Wolken war der Tag ideal für eine Wanderung und Naturbeobachtung in dieser abgeschiedenen Alpenregion.

Die Röthelmoos Alm liegt in den Chiemgauer Alpen zwischen Ruhpolding und Reit im Winkl, auf einer Höhe von etwa 800 Metern. Historisch diente das Almgebiet über Jahrhunderte der traditionellen Weidewirtschaft. Bereits im 16. Jahrhundert ist die Nutzung der Flächen für die Sommerweide dokumentiert. Mehrere Almhütten, teilweise bis heute erhalten, zeugen vom einfachen bäuerlichen Leben in dieser Region. Charakteristisch für die Röthelmoos Alm sind flache Dächer mit schweren Holzschindeln, massive Mauern und funktionale Stall- und Lagerräume unter einem Dach. Noch heute findet auf den Almen in der Umgebung in den Sommermonaten Viehhaltung statt. Kühe, Ziegen und Schafe werden auf die Wiesen getrieben, wo sie unter der Aufsicht der Sennerinnen und Senner grasen.

Die Röthelmoos Alm war lange Zeit schwer erreichbar. Erst im 20. Jahrhundert wurde ein Forstweg zur Versorgung der Hütten angelegt, der heute auch von Wandernden genutzt wird. Wegen ihrer abgeschiedenen Lage spielte die Alm keine Rolle in großem historischen Kontext wie Handel oder Krieg, erhielt sich dafür aber weitgehend in ursprünglicher Form. In der Nähe befindet sich die sogenannte Langerbaueralm, ein Gebäudeensemble, das unter Denkmalschutz steht. Diese Almhütte ist in traditioneller Blockbauweise errichtet und stammt aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Ihre Innenräume geben mit originalen Holzbalken und Möbelstücken einen Eindruck vom Leben auf der Alm in früheren Jahrhunderten.

Zur historischen Nutzung gehört auch das Schlagen von Torf, das bis in die 1950er-Jahre betrieben wurde. Die Moorflächen der Umgebung lieferten Brennmaterial für Haushalte in Ruhpolding und Umgebung. Heute sind diese Bereiche geschützt. Die Röthelmoos Alm wurde zudem als Rastpunkt für Säumer genutzt, die über die alten Saumpfade Waren von und nach Tirol transportierten. Diese Pfade sind teilweise noch als Wanderwege erkennbar.

Geprägt wird die Röthelmoos Alm durch ihre besondere Lage im Übergang zwischen Bergwald und Hochmoor. Die weitläufigen Almwiesen sind von seltenen Pflanzenarten durchsetzt, darunter Arnika, Knabenkraut und Alpenklee. Die Moorbereiche am Rand der Alm sind Lebensraum für spezialisierte Arten wie Wollgras, Sonnentau und Fieberklee. Diese Pflanzen haben sich an die nährstoffarmen und feuchten Böden angepasst. Im Sommer blühen die Wiesen in kräftigen Farben, während sich in den feuchten Senken Libellen und Amphibien aufhalten.

Der Röthelmoosbach, ein klarer Gebirgsbach, durchzieht die Alm. Er wird von Quellen gespeist, die aus dem umliegenden Bergwald entspringen. Das Wasser ist kalt und nährstoffarm und bietet Lebensraum für Bachforellen, Köcherfliegenlarven und Wasseramseln. Die Uferbereiche sind mit Erlen und Seggen bewachsen. In der Umgebung wurden auch seltene Vogelarten wie das Birkhuhn und der Dreizehenspecht nachgewiesen.

Der umliegende Mischwald besteht aus Fichten, Tannen, Buchen und Bergahorn. Aufgrund der Höhenlage und Bodenbeschaffenheit bleibt der Wald hier oft naturbelassen, was sich positiv auf die Biodiversität auswirkt. Totholz wird bewusst nicht entfernt, um Insekten, Pilzen und Kleinsäugern Lebensraum zu bieten. Diese naturnahe Forstwirtschaft wird von der Bayerischen Staatsforstverwaltung in Zusammenarbeit mit Naturschutzverbänden koordiniert. Durch dieses Konzept bleibt das Gebiet ökologisch wertvoll und erholsam zugleich.

In den Morgen- und Abendstunden liegt oft Nebel über den Moorflächen, was zusammen mit dem Zirpen der Grillen und dem Rufen von Vögeln eine besondere Atmosphäre erzeugt. Die Luft ist sauber, angereichert mit ätherischen Ölen der Bergwälder. Wanderwege führen durch das Almgebiet, vorbei an kleinen Bachläufen, Feuchtwiesen und lichten Wäldern. Die Röthelmoos Alm ist eingebettet in eine weitgehend intakte Natur- und Kulturlandschaft, die sich seit Jahrhunderten nur langsam verändert hat.

Die Röthelmoos Alm gilt als Ausflugsziel für Wanderungen und Naturerlebnisse, besonders wegen ihrer landschaftlichen Vielfalt und der weitgehend erhaltenen traditionellen Almkultur.
