Completely surrounded by the frozen world, the traveler stands alone with the horizon stretching endlessly ahead. The silence is absolute, broken only by the faint whisper of the wind across the ice. Here, in the middle of this vast white emptiness, the scale of nature becomes undeniable and humbling. There is nowhere to hide, nowhere to turn but forward. The frozen lake reflects not only the sky but also the solitude of the moment, the courage it takes to keep walking when the destination is unknown. Each breath feels louder. Each heartbeat steadier. Embracing the vastness is not about conquering the landscape but about accepting one’s smallness within it and still choosing to move forward.
Some day, particularly later in spring, when the snow is right and companion is ready, I will make it to the Arctic. In the meantime I fantasize about the pristine beauty that I have seen in National Geographic magazines. A land where snowy white and light conspire to create a world that is not only challenging to see in but also to photograph.
This bracelet is a subtle capture of what arctic must look like. Iced and brilliantly captivating blue underneath, with the hint of depth it might contain. The rough snowy patches. The mountains and their snowy shadows. A set of square construction, hosting scientists, carrying out various researches, and some igloos.

Taken near the Bayterek Tower in Astana. The temperature was so cold that the image stabilization started to judder every time I used it. At least I can report a lower temperature range for the EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens is about minus 25 degrees centigrade; I wonder if Canon ever try it with their lenses. The Canon 70D, the battery (Canon clone) and the SanDisk Extreme SD XC were working fine; no noticeable degradation in performance when taking continuous high speed images. Of course, trying to operate any settings from the touch screen required taking gloves off and that was not going to happen!
