Sister of the California Sister. Almost identical in every respect except it is larger and has a double black band around the wings, whereas the California Sister has a single, thick black band around the wings.

This spot wasn't just moist, it was watery. Males "puddle" to acquire salts and proteins to nurture their mates' eggs. I told a parent that who was nearby--after which her young child attempted to feed the butterfly a pretzel!
