52 Weeks Project
I couldn't remember that I have used this neighbourhood before for my « 52-Weeks », so here we are...
Location: Placde du Panthéon, Paris 5ème (F)
Coordinates: 48°50'45.5"N 2°20'42.5"E (Google Maps)
Motif: Nothing special other than a nice morning walk through the 5ème arrondissement of Paris.
Place du Panthéon: The Place du Panthéon is a square in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, located in front of the Panthéon.
It was one of the few squares in Paris, along with the Place Vendôme and the Rue de la Paix, which it crosses, to contain no vegetation until its redevelopment, completed in 2018. The square now features potted trees.
This square is located between Place Sainte-Geneviève and the streets Clotilde, Cujas, Soufflot, Clotaire, d'Ulm, and Valette.
It is so named because it surrounds the Panthéon (the front of the monument and its two sides; the rear of the monument is located on Rue Sainte-Clotilde).
This square, designed along with Rue Soufflot, which extends it, by Clément-Germain Soufflot, the architect of the Panthéon and the law school, was begun around 1770 on the former gardens of Sainte-Geneviève Abbey, the Clos aux Bourgeois, and the site of the Collège de Lisieux, whose buildings, purchased in 1758, were demolished in 1762. The square and Rue Soufflot also absorbed the former Rue de la Bretonnerie, whose neighboring houses were demolished (with the exception of the building at 3 Rue Soufflot). [ Wikipedia ]
Statue: This statue of Jean Jacques Rousseau is located in the Place du Panthéon. It was installed in 1952. It is the work of the sculptor Antoine Bizette-Lindet, to replace a bronze statue destroyed during the Occupation.
