Stitches made of thick black fishing line hold together the sole and the leather upper part. It was never meant to be pretty though - At the time I actually found this grungey look appealing.
Originally black, the upper part repainted with white "shoe paint", that turned into a rubbery coating after drying. Maybe even preserved the original surface a bit.

It was Nike's first Flyknit basketball shoe, using micro-engineered uppers and therefore producing 60% less waste than traditional cut-and-sew methods. This player-exclusive pair was signed and worn by Bryant during the warmups of the opening night to the 2015/6 NBA season, his last as a professional.
