158551 in Updated Markings

Bell HH-1N 158551 used to be displayed in her US Navy red and white rescue markings. These days she is painted to represent a VIP helicopter as used by US Presidents.

This US Navy HH-1N, 158557 (c/n 31642), was originally procured as a VH-1N transport.

Online sources differ in details, but it seems clear that 158557 spent some time in storage at AMARC before it was returned to service in HH-1N rescue configuration. It is apparently still in service, possibly at MCAS Yuma.

It was assigned to NAS Fallon when I took this photo at the Reno Air Races in September 1999. I don't recall why I didn't get a photo of this helo from the side at some point, but this photo certainly shows the "Twin Huey" engine exhausts clearly.
