Some days ago I saw the year's first northern wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) on a beach on Jæren.
I am very ready to have them back in our neighbourhood as well, and I have looked for them every day while out on my bike.
This female was out with her big chicks, by one of our beaches a previous summer.

A young northern wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) by our beach early last summer.
I love that the first true month of spring is here now, although we had the first snowdrop flowers already in January and the first coltsfoot flowers and migratory birds in February.
Like I say every year- this is the best time of year. with so much to look forward to!

Now that the first migratory birds are back, I look forward to all who will come over the next few months as well. I love having more birds than people as neighbours ツ
During the start of April, the northern wheatears (Oenanthe oenanthe) will be back from Africa as well.
This is a female by the beach. We have them around our house as well.

A young northern wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe), in front of some beautiful orange lichen.
It's so lovely to watch all the little families and chicks in nature now.

Tapuit - female Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe Oenanthe), transitional plumage.
Very hard to get close to.
An only passing through here in spring and early autumn.
Numbers have been dwindling for a long time.
Only about 360-440 breeding pairs left in The Netherlands (2020).
Number of wheatears passing through while migrating: 10,000-50,000.
