The Lepcha people of Sikkim call it ka ar fo. A bird of the Himalayas and south-east Asia, it lives in small flocks, with a preference for clearance and edges of old growth forests.

Spotted out of the blue from a moving car on a windy evening. Dint seem to be bothered an inch as we all bounced out of the vehicle to take his frames while he was busy making noises.

The female purple sunbird is a sureshot mom who straightaway flies to the nest and feeds her young ones. She not only builds the nest cleverly hidden from prying eyes, but also actively takes care of her young until they are ready to take off!
It was sheer delight to see the parents taking turns to feed their young family. The male is more vary and does a couple of trips around the area before he decides its safe to approach his well camouflaged nest built by his wife. The chicks are forever hungry and wait for their parents call.
High tolerance level to humans, widespread across diverse landscapes, and an absolute delight for the birder and bird photographer.

What a gorgeous sight it was to see the Red Mania unclose
a large bird of prey. The common name of the bird commemorates the Italian ornithologist and collector Franco Andrea Bonelli. Bonelli is credited with gathering the type specimen, most likely from an exploration of Sardinia.
