G-AWYU BAC One-Eleven 501EX (cn 177), British Caledonian Airways

Gatwick, UK - 4 September 1988

Named 'Isle of Colonsay'
British Caledonian had ceased to exist on 14 Apr 88 with the merger/takeover by British Airways, so G-AWYU was presumably operating a British Airways flight here. The BAC One-Elevens seem to have been repainted fairly quickly in general; G-AWYU was probably one of the last to fly in British Caledonian colours.

BCAL ran a helicopter shuttle between London Gatwick (seen here) and Heathrow between 1978 and 1986. High costs and noise objections along the route led to its closure.

London Gatwick EGKK May 1985. N112WA had a very long life, serving from May 1980 to July 1993 as a DC-10, then being converted to an MD-10 freighter for FedEx as N319FE, serving from 1994 to the end of 2022.
