Murrain Yarrein Creek crossing on the Dhuragoon Road near Moulamein., NSW.
This has been closed for some weeks now due to the recent flooding. It had dropped a lot by Christmas when this was taken and this can be seen on the tree trunks. The road was still impassable to ordinary vehicles although 4WD utilities (pickups) could go through safely.
While taking pics here, I went up to the water's edge and, stepping on what appeared to be firm ground, I started sinking in the mud. Thankfully I wasn't wearing shoes at the time but I had very muddy feet and a muddy pair of thongs (flip flops)!
First pic of the year. It was very hot here yesterday so I didn't venture forth and also lacked a bit of energy after a pleasant but very late night on New Year's Eve. This pic resulted from fiddling around with some features on my camera and is of the small fans in my home office against the backdrop of a curtain and shadecloth outside.
The Yarrein Creek at Moulamein, NSW.
I took shots of the creek in early December during the flood peak but the water had dropped considerably when I took this on Christmas Eve however it is still quite high. The flood peak in the Murray Darling system has now moved on the South Australia where a number of communities are currently under stress. I think we all hoping that 2023 will be a little bit dryer.
Happy New year everyone!
Moulamein, NSW
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and prosperous 2023.
We are spending Christmas with family in the southern Riverina of NSW. It is very hot and will reach 37° C today and we are expecting 39° tomorrow and 40° on Tuesday so summer has well and truly arrived! Thankfully it is not very humid.
