In Rochester, Minnesota, on September 3rd, 2023, was Cascade Creek as viewed from a footbridge near 9th Avenue Northwest in Kutzky Park, during an extreme drought as declared by the National Weather Service.
Cascade Creek flows to the South Fork Zumbro River, which converges with the Middle Fork Zumbro River to form the Zumbro River, which flows to the Mississippi River.

The tallest bridge on the Cumbres & Toltec is the large trestle over Cascade Creek. Having conquered the 4% ruling grade from Chama to the summit at Cumbres, K-36 #488 is now drifting easily downhill with the train. In a short while we will arrive in Osier, where we will meet the Chama Limited and the train from Antonito, as well as break for lunch.
