In 1957, Elvis Presley’s popularity reached new heights. He had seven songs in the top 40 on the singles chart that year, which was a record. He performed live in Canada and Hawaii for the first time, and his second movie “Jailhouse Rock” was released in October, 1957. Both his first movie, “Love Me Tender” (1956), and “Jailhouse Rock” were financially successful and helped establish Elvis Presley as a top Hollywood star. The soundtrack albums were also commercially successful. The year ended with Elvis receiving a draft notice to serve in the U.S. Army.
Elvis Presley appeared in 31 movies as an actor between 1956 and 1969. Some of his best movies were “Love Me Tender” (1956), “Jailhouse Rock” (1957), “King Creole” (1958), “Flaming Star” (1960), “Wild in the Country” (1961), “Blue Hawaii” (1961), “Kid Galahad” (1962), and “Viva Las Vegas” (1964).
Elvis Presley’s first hit single was “That’s All Right,” which he recorded in 1954. In total, he had 149 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Chart in the United States. Of those songs, 114 were in the top 40, 40 were in the top 10, and 18 reached number one.
