The Holi festival, also known as "Dol Utsav" is one of the important annual festival of Hinduism. The followers from the community celebrate the day across the globe harmonically every year. Bangladesh, being a historical heritage & major root for the community, witnesses the celebration from the scattering parts across the country.
Shakhari Bazar has been one of those locales, with the background of rich history and tradition. Situated in the centre of traditional old Dhaka, the area organize the festival with passion and elation each year. The festival becomes full of life with the participation of locals along with outsiders as well. For years this place known as Shakhari Bajar has become a centre of attraction for people from outside to witness this traditional celebration.
Although the festival is about greeting and coating one another with paints, the "colors" are merely metaphor. As the title suggests, it’s the celebrations of life. The bright colors symbolize the different various shades of life. Shades such as emotions, auspiciousness, blessing, tranquility, hope and playfulness. In combine this shades made us humane and teach us to live joyfully. Who knows how life would have be without those shades?
