Crathes Castle, near Banchory in Deeside, Aberdeenshire, was built by Alexander Burnett in the 16th Century. The Burnett family, who lived in the castle for over 350 years, had roots in the area dating back to 1323 when Robert the Bruce granted them nearby land. The castle and its extensive grounds are now under the National Trust for Scotland, and it is one of the most popular castles on North East Scotland’s Castle Trail.
