This light and these clouds lingered over the Platte River Valley. The clouds thickened. It darkened. Multiple strikes of lightning repeatedly struck this area. About 45 minutes later, these dramatic conditions arrived where I was: much lightning, some wind, then heavy rain fell through much of the night. By the next morning, the rain turned to snow that fell for hours. These conditions increased in severity as the weather system headed East across the Great Plains. It inflicted severe, damaging conditions in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, and more. These patterns repeated for about three days in a row.

Sometimes from where we live the clouds to our West can be very dynamic. On this particular Fall day, late in the afternoon, I witnessed what this image depicts. I used no filter, but noted various prismatic lights with textured and swirling types of clouds.
Included is a hole that formed within the clouds. Other parts of the clouds nearby appeared to be drawn toward the hole.
We are up higher sometimes than some of these lower level clouds are. They pass over the Denver Basin and the South Platte River Valley.
So we may uniquely be able to peer into such cloud systems! They usually don't last long since they are moving quickly, generally Eastward.
