Once a proud symbol of American innovation and industrial might, the Curtiss-Wright Northland Plant in Buffalo now stands as a haunting relic of a bygone era. This massive complex, which once churned out critical components for World War II aircraft, has been silent for decades—its legacy fading beneath broken glass and crumbling steel.

Despite ambitious redevelopment plans since its acquisition by the Buffalo Urban Development Corp. in 2015, the plant remains untouched—a stark monume
nt to the city's mismanaged potential.

The Forgotten Portal

Across coastal Algarve towns and much of Portugal, the beauty of historic architecture hides a sobering reality: a surplus of abandoned homes. Rising real estate costs make purchasing these properties inaccessible for locals and new buyers alike. Further complicating matters, strict renovation guarantees required by the government add a significant financial burden to restore properties to habitable conditions, dissuading potential investors.

The situation leads to many historic homes falling further into disrepair, trapped between heritage preservation laws and economic impracticalities. Addressing this issue may require incentivized restoration programs or subsidies to encourage sustainable housing solutions that preserve cultural legacies while addressing housing shortages.

A small church in the ghost town of Doelen, Belgium.

Doel, a small town in Belgium near the port of Antwerp, is often referred to as a ghost town. Once a thriving community, it became the center of controversy due to plans for the expansion of the nearby port. Over the years, many residents were forced to leave as their homes were bought up or expropriated, leaving behind a surreal landscape of abandoned houses, empty streets, and an eerie quietness.

What Was

As the last embers of twilight surrender to the celestial darkness, the skeletal structure of the house emerges, its timeworn features softened by the subtle glow of moonlight. The windows, now empty frames, mirror the countless stories that once unfolded within those walls.

Above, the night sky becomes a mesmerizing tapestry of stars, each one a distant luminary in the cosmic theater. The Milky Way, an ethereal river of light, stretches across the heavens, casting its quiet glow upon the forgotten homestead below.

The abandoned house, now surrendered to the elements, becomes a poetic canvas where the dance of shadows and starlight reveals the poetry of decay and the resilience of memory. Nature reclaims its space, yet beneath the vast celestial dome, the abandoned structure remains, a testament to the passage of time and the enduring beauty of the night.

29.05.2008 - Big Truck

Me and Disco~Stu managed to find time to go out for a photoshoot last night - it's been a while, life getting in the way y'know! We had a grand old time despite the weather, which tried its best to put us off. We took a walk around the local industrial estate as the plan was to get some gritty, industrial-stylee shots.

Stu spotted this derelict truck and when the rain stopped we spent a fun (and maybe slightly illegal?) 10 minutes takin' pictures - Stu ended up sitting in the truck trying to get a shot for a possible 365 pic. Note: Stu had to sit on broken glass to get the shots of him in the truck - now that's dedication! I assume he felt no ill effects as he was walking properly for the rest of the shoot . . .

This isn't the greatest shot but the truck itself was a really interesting object - hopefully Stu's got some better ones on his stream - go see!

It's bigger here!
