UEOCRSS004T runs hard upgrade through the small farming town of Lee. The D&H heritage SD70ACe leads this 110-load sand train to North Dakota. This is along BNSF's Aurora sub, which has a lot of rolling hills in central and western Illinois. Here the headend was still in notch 8 pulling hard, by the end it was at track speed with rear DPU in dynamics.
Just when you think all is lost, sometimes the stars align and this is one of those times. After taking empty sand into Chicago the night prior and eventually Eola the same morning, we all thought it was over. An hour or two passes and then a 1500 Cicero crew comes on duty to take Sand Loads with this very power. Not to mention it couldn’t have happened on a more better weather day!
Under a beautiful evening sunny sky, the stellar looking Delaware & Hudson SD70ACe (NS 1080) powers BNSF train U-EOCRSSO, as it skirts across the Western Illinois countryside side along the former Burlington Northern just outside of Shabbona, IL on the BNSF Aurora Sub heading west for Ross, ND. Being a fan of the D&H, the 1080 became an immediate bucket list item when NS painted the unit, see it out of place and running on the BN was not how I imagined it but that’s why we do this thing right?
