(VH-HLF) A79-636 De Havilland (Australia) DH.115 Vampire T.35 (cn 4158), RAAF Museum

Mangalore, VIC, Australia - 15 April 1990

Mangalore Air Show

After many years as an instructional airframe at Point Cook, VH-HLF was restored to airworthiness by the RAAF Museum in 1988. Unfortunately it made only a very limited number of flying appearances (mostly in the early 1990s) before being retired apparently around 1997, whereupon it seems to have been put into storage and has rarely, if ever, been seen in public since. The 'official' (?) reason for its grounding was that the airframe ran out of fatigue life, but, given the very small number of flying hours it seems to have accumulated after its restoration, this may not be entirely correct...

A79-659 De Havilland (Australia) DH.115 Vampire T.35 (cn 4181)

RAAF Museum, Point Cook, VIC, Australia - 18 February 1990

A79-659 was put on external display at the RAAF Museum in 1977 following a few years as an instructional airframe at Wagga Wagga. It became surplus to requirements with the museum probably sometime in the 1990s and was acquired by famed warbird collector Jeff Trappett and moved to Latrobe Valley, where it has been stored ever since.
