
The stone statue of King Saint Stephen I of Hungary (Szent István király), designed by sculptor Pál Kő, was dedicated in front of Gellért-hegyi Sziklakápolna (Gellert Hill Rock Chapel) in May, 2011. Stephen I was the was the last Grand Prince of the Hungarians between 997 and 1000 or 1001, and the first King of Hungary from 1000 or 1001, until his death in 1038. Stephen is Hungary’s patron saint and Considered to be the founder of the Hungarian state.
Szabadság híd (Liberty Bridge, or Freedom Bridge) crosses 333.6-meters over the River Danube, connecting Buda and Pest. Built from 1894 to 1896 to the plans of János Feketeházy, the cantilever truss bridge with a suspended middle span imitates the general outline of the more popular design of its time, the chain-type bridge.
